Welcome to Danville State Hospital a website dedicated to the third oldest state hospital in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Established on April 13, 1868, the hospital was the third public state hospital built in Pennsylvania, Harrisburg being the first in 1845 and Dixmont being second in 1848. The hospital served 20 counties, and helped to alleviate over crowding problems at Harrisburg State Hospital. As of 2009 the hospital has provided 137 years of service to Pennsylvania's mentally ill. Today the population at Danville is less than 200 patients.
